Deshpande Panchang

Deshpande Panchang is the 1st Soorya-Siddhanteeya panchang published in Maharashtra and the only pure Soorya-Siddhanteeya panchang in India. It is created by Mr. Gaurav Deshpande from Pune, Maharashtra, India. Gaurav is a Software Engineer by profession but since childhood has had an acute interest in Vaidik Granthaas and astrology.

Panchang means ‘Panch Ang’ (Sanskrit). Tithi, Waar, Nakshatra, Yog and Karan are the main five angas (elements) of it.

While studying this, he realized that there are mainly two types of Panchang creation methods in Hindu tradition. One is ‘Soorya-siddhanteeya panchang’ — followed since ancient times — and another is ‘Drik Panchang’, which has a history of not more than 50 to 60 years.

Gaurav is a software engineer by profession and runs his own software company in Mumbai as CEO. He has been passionate about astrology, astronomy and theology since childhood. Reviving the ancient Indian solar-theory almanac system — closed in Maharashtra for the last 60 years — he has been publishing ‘DharmaShastra Sammat Deshpande Panchang’ in Maharashtra for the last 9 years.

Study of astrology, almanac, theology and Triskandha jyotisha was guided by Pandit Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid guruji of Varanasi. The awards Jyotisharatna and Ganakpravar were conferred by Kashi Dharmasabha for presiding over the special Dharmasabha on the Angulalp lunar eclipse in 2013.

He has received honours from revered teachers including Sringeri Shankaracharya and Jagannath Puri Shankaracharya. Thousands of lectures and discourses on Dharmashastra, Jyotish, Adhyatma, Mantrashastra, Ayurveda and Panchang continue through newspapers, television, and the internet. More than one lakh kundalis have been studied; kundali and Vastu guidance continues in a disciplined, scientific manner.
